Crooked river State park

Located near St. Mary's, Georgia, Crooked River is a wooded retreat in the midst of the busy I-95 Corridor. The campground is a short drive to St. Marys to catch the ferry for Cumberland Island National Seashore. The campground itself is a broad, flat wooded area near the river. Sites are natural and quite level. Hiking is available as flat nature trails around the park. Facilities are older, though a renovation is anticipated for 2017-2018.

Good river access, lots of things to do in the area, nice selection of amenities in the campground.

Location

Located near I-95 near St. Mary's Georgia, the Crooked River State Park boarders the Intracoastal Waterway's Crooked River south bank.

Amenities

Crooked River Park offers a boat launch, several kayak trails, hiking trails, a nature center, bait and tackle shop, boat and bike rentals, miniture golf and geocaching. 

Nearyby St. Mary's offers the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore. Ferries make the trip twice each day. 

There are many attractions in the general area including Amelia Island, King's Bay Submarine Base, Jekyll Island and the Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.

Camp Sites

There are 62 campsites as well as 11 cottages for rent. The campsites offer electricity and water and there is a dump station on the property. 

The sites are natural rather than paved and several back up to the river. The facilities are well-worn but bathhouses are well placed and offer easy access from most sites. The campground will undergo renovations in the summer of 2017.
