Planning an RV trip is an exciting adventure in itself. Choosing routes and destinations becomes easier if you know what is available in each area of the country. After a career of working with tourism bureaus, I know all the terrific resources they can offer a traveler. From identifying festivals and events, parks, local specialties, and attractions to museums, restaurants, and places to stay- including campgrounds.

Many offer discounts to selected attractions, hotels, or restaurants. You’ll also learn about guided and self-guided tour options. At the very least, you can request a brochure and maps to help with your trip planning. The websites are a perfect way to browse each area and view photos and videos of the area

Start with the department of tourism at the state or province level. They can give you an overview of the major attractions and destinations within their region. They can also provide links to city-level departments of tourism or convention and visitors bureaus that give more detailed information on their areas.

Don’t forget to check in with the U.S. National Park Service for information specific for each park as well as Parks Canada for similar information on the Canadian National Parks. You’ll find historic areas, public lands, amazing landscapes, and all manner of outdoor activities including ranger programs.
